The social aspects of car sharing and car pooling

Konrad Goetz, at ISOE (Istitute for Social-Ecological Research) is conducting some interesting research projects on urban mobility, with a particular focus on car-sharing and how it affects transport behaviour.

In his presentation at the 2013 Mobility Futures Conference in Lancaster Goetz highlighted how flexible car sharing services can support multimodal mobilities: “The new mulitoptional users do not only have apps of various different car sharing providers on their smartphone, they also use their local public transport or railway provider’s e-ticket-app and use ridesharing and long distance bus services” (Goetz, 2013).

But what is the environmental impact of car sharing? And what are its effects on public transport?

This is an article on car-sharing, electric cars, and the decline of the private car ownership: http://www.innovations-report.com/html/reports/trade-fair-news/owning-sharing-megatrend-helps-electromobility-219751.html

Lisa Creno (Vedecom & Telecom ParisTech SES department) researched the user experience with car-pooling. In this paper, co-authored with Beatrice Cahour and presented at ECCE 2014, the authors investigate issues of building trust to cope with perceived risks.
